 Family Time
John and Carol have been together since high school. What started out as a high school date at the prom years ago has become a lasting, loving and committed marriage. They have one son, Jonathan.
Family is important to John because he knows it is the bedrock of a stable society, providing a nurturing environment for children and a place on which parents can center their lives. John believes that families should be at the top of state government's agenda and he's committed to introducing legislation to make it so. John Welch the family man is working hard for all the families in the 21st District. You can count on it.
 Military Service
One of the toughest jobs in any military is that of the corpsman or the medic assigned to a ground unit. Sgt. John Welch served 8 years in the United States Army earning his "jump wings" as a Medic with the fabled 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Sgt. John Welch excelled at his job serving with distinction and receiving two Meritorious Service Medals. John also won his units coveted "Soldier of the Year" award. John Welch brings that kind of dedication to everything he does and he is committed to work hard and do his best for all of us in the 21st District.
 Public Service
John Welch is a long time activist and supporter of the Republican party. It is a natural place for a man of John's political point of view and he's made many friends among local and state Republican officeholders.
John has worked with many campaigns providing advice and financial support. His counsel is sought by elected officials. John felt that it was time for him to take the next logical step to serve the people of the District as an elected official. Delegate Welch was the Family Foundation Legislator of the Year.
Community Service
John's circle widens to include his friends, neighbors, and their children. John loves kids, and he's spent a lifetime working with them. From a pat on the back, to friendly advice, or direct involvement as a sports coach, John is a kid's best friend. The West Kempsville basketball team is a perfect example of John Welch's involvement in the lives of our children.
